How to Use a Prayer Board to Organize Your Prayer Life

If we’re being honest, I have not always been the best about praying. Usually, it’s something that happens right before I’m falling asleep. I also use tiny prayers on occasion when I’m having a rough day. In an effort to be more intentional about my prayer life, I decided I needed to try a prayer board.

I’ve seen numerous pins on different ways to create one of your own, or how to develop an entire war room. Whether you want a war room or a prayer board, I don’t think it necessarily matters what yours looks like. What matters is how you use it.

How to Use a Prayer Board

It seems fairly straight forward, but there are some issues that might arise with using a prayer board. For example, if you put it in a place you don’t see every day, you might forget to use it. Or, if you fail to update prayer needs, how might you remember what you wanted to pray about? A specific prayer spot or board can be a useful tool when it is used properly.

So, remember the following tips:

  • Place your board in a well-seen location.
  • If you prefer privacy for praying, your bedroom can be a good spot.
  • Keep a pen and paper nearby for updating.
  • Update the verses you use regularly.
  • Make it how you want to.

Your prayer board should be filled with everything you need/ want to pray about. You might organize it by category or level of importance. However you decide to set it up, make sure it works for you!

Scriptures to Include

Prayer that includes scripture helps us to know that we are praying in a way that is pleasing to God. It is God-breathed and true. Verses help to remind us the reason for our prayers. Sometiems, using scripture on your prayer board can be an answer to a prayer.

Psalm 102:17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea.

Jeremiah 29:12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

1 Samuel 2:1 Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.”

Acts 2:21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

Including these and other scriptures on your prayer board can be a great way to lift you up when you’re feeling like those prayers are going unanswered. Fear not – God is listening. He hears your prayers and he understands your heart. Pray, pray, and pray some more. You’ll get your answered prayer.

Inspiration for Your Own Board

Creating your own prayer board is relatively simple. It could be cork, chalk, magnetic, or even a large piece of paper. Creating a prayer board that you want to use is helpful in making your prayer life more intentional.

You might use photos of certain people that you want to pray for. Illustrations, quotes, and simple prayer requests can invite inspiration into your prayer life. If you’re seeking an exact design, you can find some beautiful options on Amazon. As a toddler mom, I’m drowning in construction paper and preschool craft supplies, so personally, I used what I had at hand for a DIY creation. You can, too!

Pray More, Pray Better

Organizing your prayer life with your own prayer board is a great way to remember to pray more. It can also help you to pray better. My own prayers are scatter-brained and filled with, “Sorry, God, I’ll get back on track…” With a prayer board, that scatter-brained aspect disappears.

Praying more = praying better

Praying better is not just straying thoughts mid-prayer, but learning to talk to God like a close friend. It requires that you converse with Him – not just talk, but listen, too. Use your new prayer board as a sounding board, but remember to pause and take in what He has to say.
